4 HCs - Delhi, Bombay, Madras, Calcutta have original jurisdiction of civil cases of higher value

NOTE: Few areas of HC original jurisdiction is diverted to Tribunals (Ex: Company laws by National Company Law Tribunal)

First appeals - on both question of law and fact if amount exceeds stipulated amount - from district court, additional court and subordinate courts under HC
Second appeal - on only question of law - fro district court, additional court and subordinate courts under HC
3 HCs - Bombay, Calcutta, Madras - Have provision for intra-court appeal- appeal to a different bench other than previous bench in same HC
Appeals from decisions of administrative tribunals

Appeals from Session and additional Sessions court if sentence more than 7 years imprisonment
Death sentence has to be confirmed by HC if at all awarded by sessions court
Some cases specified in Criminal Procedure Code where appeals can be made to HC

High courts also have power of Judicial review. Any central/state law which ultravires the constitution is nullified
