International Institute for Population Sciences is the nodal agency for carrying out the survey

Uses age, weight for age, height, mid upper arm circumference to measure pre-val ence of stunting, wasting and underweight

District Level Household and Facility Survey DLHF

Ministry of Health and Family welfare
Latest is DLHF 4 during 2012-13
Objective: to provide reproductive and child health related database at district level in India.
International Institute for Population Sciences is the nodal agency for carrying out the survey

Annual Status of Education Report (ASER)

Conducted since 2005 in all rural districts in India
It is a household survey rather than a school based survey which enables all children to be included for e.g. those who have never been to school or have dropped out
It provides snapshot of children's schooling and learning
Children 3-6 years surveyed to know their enrolment status
Children 5-16 years surveyed to know their basic reading and arithmetic abilities

Only half of all students in Class V can read texts meant for Class II students.

2017 survey titled Beyond Basics” is focusing on youth who are 14 to 18 years old and have moved just beyond the elementary school age
2018- enrollment patterns in age group 4 to 8.
2019- a focus on cognitive skills rather than subject learning in the early years can make a big difference to basic literacy and numeracy abilities.

National Achievement Survey

By Ministry of HRD
Assesses performance of students in five major subjects-English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science and Modern Indian Languages.
It is a school based survey & takes into account only the children enrolled in Govt schools
Both Urban and Rural areas by NCERT for students in 3,5, 8th class
Rural students scored higher than those in cities which is contrary to the perception that the quality of education in urban areas is superior to that in rural areas

All India Survey on Higher Education AISHE

Pan India, annual web-based survey which covers all the Higher Educational Institutions in the country
Conducted by Ministry of Human Resource Development
Various parameters on which the data is collected are teachers, student enrolment, programs, examination results, education finance, infrastructure etc.

Socio Economic Caste Census SECC 2011

Study of socio economic status of rural and urban households.
Under Ministry of Rural Development
Involved departments: Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Housing and Urban affairs, Office of Registrar General and Census Commissioner, State and Indian Govts.
This is the first time such a comprehensive exercise has been carried out for both rural and urban India
This is the first caste based census of independent India
Objectives

To enable households to be ranked based on their Socio- Economic status. State Governments can then prepare a list of families living BPL
To make available authentic information that will enable caste-wise population enumeration of the country
To make available authentic information regarding the socio economic condition, and education status of various castes and sections of the population

The SECC-2011 was NOT conducted under the Census Act 1948

This implies that information collection was done on self-declaration model of the respondents

SECC 2011 has three census components

Census in Rural Area was conducted by the Department of Rural Development.
Census in Urban areas was done under the administrative jurisdiction of the Ministry of Housing and Urban affairs
Caste Census was done under the administrative control of Ministry of Home Affairs (Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India)

Criteria used for National Health Protection Mission Ayushman Bharat

Indian Human Development Survey IHDS

representative, multi-topic survey of households in rural and urban areas throughout country
Jointly organized by researchers from the University of Maryland and the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER)
IHDS collects data on differen dimensions of human development like education, caste, gender relations and infrastructure.

Census

Every 10 years (decennial)
Authority: Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, India under Ministry of Home Affairs
Census Act 1948

Legislation to effect census; empowers Central Govt to notify the date for the census and to appoint a Census Commissioner and Superintendents of Census Operations in States.
The Act provides penalties on citizens for giving false answer or not giving answers at all to the census questionnaire.
Secrecy of information collected
Census information should not be used for any purpose against the individual except for an offence in connection with the census itself.
Census records are not open to inspection and also not admissible in evidence.
The answers ascertained at the census can be used only for statistical purposes in which the individual data get submerged.

Agricultural Census

Conducted by Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture & Family Welfare
Conducted at five yearly intervals for collection of information about the structural aspects of agricultural holdings in our country
It is carried in three phases

First Phase - data on primary characteristics like number of operational holdings and area operated by different size classes (marginal, small, semi-medium, medium and large), social groups, (SC and ST and others), gender (male/female), types of holding etc. is collected]
Second Phase - detailed data on characteristics of operational holdings such as land use, irrigation status, tenancy particulars are collected based on samples from 20% of villages in each tehsil.
Third Phase - data on the pattern of input use by operational holdings is collected which is also called Input Survey

Situation Assessment Survey of Agricultural Households

NSSO
To capture condition of agricultural households in rural areas
It provides information on various aspects relating to farming and other socio-economic characteristics of agricultural households.

Information on consumer expenditure,
income and productive assets, their indebtedness, resource availability
farming practices and preferences, awareness o technological developments, access to modern technology

Livestock Census

Under Dept. of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, MINISTRY OF FISHERIES, ANIMAL HUSBANDRY & DAIRYING
Complete enumeration of all household enterprises/non-household enterprises and institutions both in rural and urban areas

It contains data of all domesticated animals, poultry sector, fishing sector machinery and statistics

Economic Census

It provides

Count of establishments including the unorganised sector both public and private sector
Operational and structural aspects of all establishments in the country
Insights into geographical spread/clusters of economic activities, ownership pattern; persons engaged etc. of the establishments engaged in economic activity.

Annual Survey of Industries ASI

Most comprehensive and reliable source of organised manufacturing sector data providing disaggregated industry specific details of production, investment, employment and costs.
ASI does not cover unorganised or unregistered or informal sector enterprises.

Consumer Expenditure Survey CES

It estimates generates estimates of household Monthly Per Capita Consumer Expenditure (Food and Non-food)
It distributes households and persons over the Monthly Per Capita Expenditure (MPCE) classes

Quarterly Employment Survey

Labour Bureau has been conducting the Quarterly Employment Survey
Objective: Measuring relative change in employment situation over successive quarters in sizeable segment of Non-farm Industrial economy covering 8 major sectors viz. Manufacturing, Construction, Trade, Transport, Education, Health, Accommodation & Restaurants and IT/BPO.

Periodic Labour Force Survey

To enable effective monitoring of the labour market, National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) under the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MOSPI) has been given the responsibility of conduct of Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS).
Accordingly, NSSO is responsible for the formulation of sampling design, data collection, data processing and publication of reports.
This survey has been launched across India in April 2017.
It is employment-unemployment survey
